HP Printer’s Automatic Updates?

HP Printer’s Automatic Updates

HP Printer’s Automatic Updates?

Why update a printer software?

HP Printer’s Automatic Updates – Printer manufacturers such as Brother, Epson, HP, and Lexmark update most of their printer software automatically on a regular basis. Most of the time, these updates are installed without the user even knowing about them.

These updates often have no benefit to the end user and are simply provided to combat the use of generic cartridges by making them unrecognizable by the printer once the update is installed.

We strongly recommend that you take the time to read this article and make sure that your printer has automatic updates disabled.

The most recent HP printers can receive firmware updates (installed manually by the customer or automatically) that can lock the cartridge chip and prevent printing. In general, when this happens, a message such as “Cartridge error: missing or damaged cartridge,” “cartridge problem,” or a similar message will be displayed when using rechargeable ink cartridges that have an installed replacement chip. We recommend that you always disable the feature, “Automatic Update,” “Printer Update” or “HP Update” to help prevent future lock-outs when using rechargeable ink cartridges.

  • Click the Start menu in the bottom left corner of the screen and, in the menu, slightly to the right of this, left-click on the “Control Panel” tab.

  • In the Control Panel, you need to scroll through the left column until you find the green heading “Hardware and Sound.”

  • Click on the first link in this section, which should be “View Devices and Printers.”

  • Once you are in the “Devices” panel, you will see a small icon representing a computer with your computer’s name underneath.

  • Right-click on the computer icon, and then left-click on the menu indicating “Device installation settings.”

  • The next window that appears will ask you if you want to automatically download and install software updates for your devices.

Printer not Working on Windows

Printer not Working

Printer won’t print is a common issue for HP printer users. This issue can result from various reasons, from connectivity issues to faulty configurations or drivers. If you are struggling to find a good fix, you can give the methods as follows a try. They can help you fix your HP printer won’t print problem.

1) Perform basic troubleshooting

2) Update printer driver

3) Set your printer as default

4) Cancel all print jobs

5) Check printer status

1) Printer not Working – Perform basic troubleshooting

You can do some troubleshooting at first when you find your HP printer stops working. You should check the status of the connection between your printer and your computer. Make sure your devices are properly connected with each other, and the network or the cable you use to connect these devices is normal.

You can also try restarting your HP printer. Turn it off completely and unplug the power cord, leave it for a couple of minutes, and then plug the cord back and power on the printer. See if your printer can print as normally as before.

2) Printer not Working – Update or reinstall printer driver

In many cases, printer won’t print issue comes from faulty drivers. You may need to update or reinstall printer driver to fix your HP printer not printing issue.

One easy and credible way to deal with drivers is to use Driver Easy.

Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for it. You don’t need to know exactly what system your computer is running, you don’t need to risk downloading and installing the wrong driver, and you don’t need to worry about making a mistake when installing.

You can download and install your drivers by using either Free or Pro version of Driver Easy. But with the Pro version it takes only 2 clicks (and you get full support and a 30-day money back guarantee):

a) Download and Install Driver Easy.

b) Run Driver Easy and hit Scan Now button. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.

c) Click on the Update button next to your HP printer to download the latest and correct driver for this device. You can also hit Update All button at the bottom right to automatically update all outdated or missing drivers on your computer (this requires the Pro version — you will be prompted to upgrade when you click on Update All).

Apart from updating driver, you can also use Driver Easy to uninstall driver (also Pro required). This is helpful especially when you want to reinstall the driver of a device.

a) Open Driver Easy and select Tools.

b) Select Driver Uninstall and you will see a list of device drivers. Locate your HP printer driver and then click on the Uninstall button. The driver you select will be removed soon.

3) Set your printer as default

When you are trying to print something, your computer will automatically assign these printing tasks to default printer unless you choose another one on purpose. So your HP printer won’t do its job if you neither set it as default printer nor select it as the printer to print.

If you want to set your HP printer as default, please follow the steps below.

a) Press Window logo key and R key on your keyboard at the same time to open Run dialog. In this dialog, type “control” and hit Enter. This will open Control Panel.

b) In Control Panel select Devices and Printers.

c) In Printers section, right click on your HP printer and then select Set as default printer. Click on Yes if prompted.

d) There is now a tick below the icon of your HP printer. That means it is now set as default printer.

4) Cancel all print jobs

Another possible cause of your HP printer not printing issue is the stuck print queue. The print queue containing failed print jobs can stop functioning normally and lead to printer not printing issue. You can clear all print jobs to get your HP printer back to normal.

a) Open Devices and Printers in Control Panel. (You can refer to the steps a and b in the method above.)

b) Right click on your HP printer in Printers section and select See what’s printing.

c) Open Printer menu and then select Open As Administrator.

d) Open Printer menu again. This time select Cancel All Documents.

e) Confirm your action.

f) You have cancelled all print jobs of your printer. Now check and see if it can run normally.

5) Check printer status

If you have tried the methods above and your HP printer still cannot print, you may need to check if there are hardware issues on your printer.

You need to ensure your HP printer has enough paper, ink or toner, and it is not stuck on paper jam. Also check the status of your printer cartridge and try replacing it with a new one if it is not good enough. In some cases your HP printer stops printing after you replace its parts. If this happens you should install the original ones back and see if the problem resolves.

You can also have your printer serviced. Contact HP customer support for further assistance or get your printer repaired or replaced.
